Chinese based Xiaomi is reportedly going to be next smartphone maker to get force-touch. The company is rumoured to be working on pressure-sensitive displays for their next device. Following in the footsteps of first Huawei and then Apple.

According to a Weibo user Leaksfly Xiaomi has filed a patent for its own brand of 3D Touch, soon after Samsung received a similar patent earlier this month. Reports have indicated that Samsung will consider using Synaptics’ newly developed Clear Force displays on the hardware front. And although Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship Mi5 might be the most potential candidate for 3D Touch to make its debut, the existing M4c is already using Synaptics’ CearPad touch. While the hardware does support Force Touch and Side Touch, named “Edge Touch by Xiaomi, the former has not been activated.

And, on a side note, two leaked images of a supposed Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro have also been doing the rounds online recently.

  • The new smartphone has an all-metal casing and supposedly comes in two variants – one with a fingerprint scanner underneath the rear camera, and one without.
  • The device likely will have the same specs as the existing Redmi Note 2.
  • The Redmi Note 2 has a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display at 401 ppi.
  • It runs on a 2.2GHz MediaTek MT6795 octa-core processor with a PowerVR G6200 GPU.
  • Packs 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage (expandable).
  • It also has a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front cam.
  • It is powered by a 3060mAh battery.

There were also reports that Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone will come with a price tag of $399, approximately Rs 26,500 but the Chinese company hasn’t officially revealed anything about the device.
